Gender Determination
At SureScan Studio in Athlone, Co. Roscommon, we provide accurate and private gender determination services using two trusted methods: blood testing and ultrasound scanning. Our clinic supports expectant parents who are eager to find out their baby’s gender early in pregnancy with fast, reliable results in a calm, clinical setting.

Early Gender Blood Test – Results from 6 Weeks
We offer the early gender blood test from as early as 6 weeks into pregnancy. This is a non-invasive blood test that identifies male DNA in the mother's bloodstream. The test is safe and only requires a simple blood draw from the mother’s arm.
-
Accuracy: Up to 99.9% accurate
-
Timing: Available from 6 weeks
-
Results: Usually within 3-5 working days
-
Safety: No risk to mother or baby
This test is ideal for those who want early answers and prefer not to wait until later scans. It can be a practical choice for parents planning ahead or simply curious.
Gender Scan – From 16 Weeks Onward
If you prefer a gender scan, we provide ultrasound-based gender determination from 16 weeks gestation. This scan gives you a chance to see your baby on screen and learn the gender in real-time with visual confirmation.
-
Duration: Approx. 15 minutes
-
Method: Performed using high-quality ultrasound
-
Report: Gender confirmed during the appointment
-
Photos: Included if visibility is clear
During the scan, our trained professionals examine your baby’s position and visibility. If baby is not in a good position, we may offer a free rescan.

What to Expect at Your Appointment
For the blood test, we confirm your dates and draw a small sample. You’ll get your results by email once the lab analysis is complete. This test works by detecting Y-chromosome DNA. If male DNA is found, the baby is a boy. If not, it’s a girl.
For the ultrasound scan, we invite you to lie back comfortably while we use our scanner to assess baby’s gender. You’ll get an answer on the day, and you’re welcome to bring one guest with you.
We ask clients to arrive with a full bladder for ultrasound scans to improve visibility. For blood tests, fasting is not required.
Are the Results Always Accurate?
Both the blood test and ultrasound scan are extremely reliable when done at the correct stage:
The blood test has a very high accuracy rate, but it depends on accurate dating and correct sample handling.
The gender scan is visually assessed, so clear views are essential. If baby is not in a good position, we offer a second appointment free of charge.
